Thin Line.

A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, 1996, directed and written by Martin Lawrence.
starring: Martin Lawrence, Lynn Whitfield, Regina King.

"An observable, fast-talking party man Darnell Wright, gets his punishment when one of his conquests takes it personally and comes back for revenge in this 'Fatal Attraction'-esque comic thriller." (IMDB).

This might not have been that bad, I don't really know because I was extremely bored. I think this is because I'm not really a fan of Martin Lawrence and the scenes I liked best were the ones with Bobby Brown and Regina King who I found much more likable. I think I might have been more attentive had they made him a little more charming and less of a dolt.

In other news, I have something cooking for next month that I'm extremely excited about, it will involve a contest and a new, FUN film list! A sort of anti-Valentine's Day list, or alternative Valentine's Day list if you will. Does anyone really like Valentine's Day anyway? I don't. It reminds me of a crazy ex boyfriend I had during my first two years of college, the one that whipped a screwdriver (drink, not tool) across the room once when he was mad at me. He also jumped out of a moving vehicle on Skyline Drive in Duluth a different time he was mad at me. What a creep.

Anyway, these bad films are really starting to get to me. I'm willing to finish what I started, but for some of these there's just not enough booze in the house to make them tolerable, you know what I'm saying? Ya-ya Sisterhood was almost enough to make me swear off all of it, permanently.

I never saw this one. Didn't look zany enough.

yeah, dudsville. too bad, I really like the name Darnelle. It's so uncommon, people should really bring it back.

I think Darnell is a fairly common name among black culture. That is to say, I've known a few black guys named Darnell.

I don't envy you the task you've assigned yourself with this shitty movie list.

i came to a few realizations late in the game:

1. saying i'd watch them all from start to finish was really, really dumb.

2. many more people than i ever thought actually participated in this.

3. thank goodness some people hate films that i actually enjoy or this little project would have destroyed me.

next month's project is 15 films. THE END.

I think it's sweet that you solicited opinions from your friends, but I hope you learned your lesson. When it comes to such things, most people can't be trusted because they're stupid.

The three of us are the exceptions, of course. Our opinions matter.

That's funny, but there's something to that. It seems that some people have a really high low threshold for declaring a movie shitty. For me, there are movies that aren't good--maybe like A Thin Line Between Love and Hate--and there are movies that are truly shitty. I mean, a shitty movie is something that is so terrible, I actually feel embarrassed for the people who made it. There's absolutely nothing redeeming in it.

I've really only seen a few movies in my life that I'd qualify as that bad.

By the way, this reminds me. How come nobody nominated any Pauly Shore or Carrot Top films?

NO KIDDING! carrot-top? gag me.

and i'm finding out that the films that kind of knew they'd be cheesy/shitty/not clever/etc. were MUCH more tolerable than films that came out with the pretense of being something way above what they ended up accomplishing.

i'm talking about vanilla sky here. and ya-ya.
